Lifelong Metabolic Center uses DNA testing to help you determine the right plan to lose weight and keep it off for life. LMC is unique because it offers not only a jump-start portion to help you drop weight quickly and safely that includes real food, natural supplements, and a high level of accountability, but we also offer DNA testing to help you find the right plan for weight maintenance.
The DNA testing is quick, non-invasive, and we get the results within a couple of weeks. It is by far the most important part of the Lifelong Metabolic Center weight loss program.
We use genetic testing because we believe one size fits all doesn’t work in the world of long- term weight maintenance. Diets may work, but then what? If you are dieting, your goal is to lose weight, but that isn’t sustainable for life. You need a Lifelong plan for healthy eating and moderate exercise that is right for your body. You need all food groups in your life for you to achieve your ideal health and body. Cutting out anything for life can be detrimental to your health.
We use the data in this DNA report to develop your personalized program-not a one size fits all. Lifelong Metabolic Center uses DNA testing because we need to know what you are made up of, how your body reacts to different foods, and how you metabolize different food groups in order to give you the best care possible. This 45-page report provides us with that information.
Lifelong Metabolic Center does DNA testing via a buccal (cheek) swab. It is a very simple procedure where we take two q-tips and drag one along each side of your mouth on the inside. It takes about 10 seconds and doesn’t hurt or gag you. You will barely feel it. We then package them up along with your data and mail it to our genetic lab for processing. The reports are returned in about two weeks via a digital file. Dr. Borre will share that file in a Dropbox application so you may save them, print them, or easily share them with a spouse or friend if you wish.
If you choose our remote program, we will mail you the kit and you can even do the test at home and mail it directly to the lab or Dr. Borre.
The DNA testing returns a 45-page report based on how each gene tested presents in you. The data tells you things about yourself like how much drinking the right amount of water per day affects you, how sensitive are you to sugar, alcohol, or carbohydrates in general. Each gene tested has a paragraph of information about what that gen represents, how it presents in your body, and what that means for you. Don’t worry about it sounding overwhelming. Dr. Borre will be there to translate the lingo and help make sure you fully understand the report, what it means, and how to best use it.
This data is compiled to give you a set of meal guidelines such as how many ounces of protein, teaspoons of healthy fats, and cups of fruits or vegetables, dairy, starches you need daily. The report breaks this data down into several options of easy to follow plans.
You may have heard the term “Macros” used a lot lately. Your Macros are the breakdown of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins needed per day. They are given to you in this report in both a percentage and a quantified way. You can see how many grams of each you need or in serving sizes. This customized Macro plan and food list can help you lose or maintain your weight.
This report even contains your micro nutrient needs as well. It will discuss the amounts of all vitamins and minerals you need to be the healthiest you!
The results utilized most specifically from this report in the LMC program are what to eat and how to exercise. There are 5 different eating plans included. They range from the lowest level (for weight loss), to the middle level (for weight maintenance), all the way up to that best suited for a performance athlete. We choose the right plan for you based on your need when we enter this phase of our program.
The exercise component gives you a MET range. Every exercise has a Metabolic Equivalent. MET is a term used to represent the intensity of exercise. You may have seen METS on the display panel of a treadmill, elliptical, or stationary bike. In general:1 MET stands for the amount of oxygen you consume and the number of calories you burn at rest.
Once we know your desired MET range from your DNA report, we can customize an exercise plan that includes things your body is capable of doing, that fit your lifestyle (time/energy/money), and that you ENJOY! No need for an expensive gym membership, but if you have a gym or exercise you like, we can tailor this to fit your desires.
